Life Cycle

Amplexus

Frogs mate by the male clasping the female underneath in an embrace which is called amplexus. He climbs on her back, reaches around her "waist" in front of the hind legs, just behind the front legs, or maybe around the head. This can last several days. It usually occurs in the water but some species mate on land; some even in trees.
