About Frogs:History

The Legendary Origins of Frogs

Frogs have been on earth for a very long time. The first known frogs were in the Jurassic time. It was precisely the late Jurassic period, which was about 190 million years ago! The oldest frogs developed jumping legs to avoid being eaten by dinosaurs, scientists believe. On Navajo Indian reservations in Arizona, specimens of the first known frogs have been found. At the same site, fossils of meat-eating fish and reptiles such as dinosaurs have been found. Those fossils show that over the past 190 million years, the skeletal shape and body plan of the frog has remained almost unchanged. Also, frogs have the advantage of being small to hop away when in danger like the many predators which lived in its surroundings.
